Terry Leese LIGO is active nearly all the time. Though no, this was a particularly long signal which is one of the interesting things about it, it lasted almost 100 seconds. Laura HD, that’s the nutty thing about relativity: it ALWAYS takes the observer into account. 2018 The Year I Marry The Most Amazing Man Alive Hoodie. With distances and light speed being what they are, we WERE here to observe it, 130 million years after it actually happened (in our space-time reference frame) — just as we will be here 8.5 minutes from now to catch the rays from the Sun.

Jack Lindon, that is absolutely not true. Gravitational waves “oscillate” (bad terminology, in this case, but I’ll run with it) at frequencies well, well outside the range of human hearing. You will never hear them, no matter how close you are to the event. That kind of wave just isn’t anywhere near the tiny sliver of the acoustical pressure wave frequency spectrum that stimulates our inner ears to the sense of hearing.

If you were close enough to the event to be impacted by any high-velocity gasses expanding into the void, THAT you would definitely hear. Gravity waves produce no human perceivable “sound”. You have to take the wave amplitude measurements, as recorded, and then transpose them to the frequencies that produce audible sound. “The space oscillating will cause the matter inside your ears to oscillate with it.

” I don’t believe you would hear anything even if the amplitude were strong enough because the space and matter in your ears would all be expanding and contracting together so there would be no perceived change. Also there are radio waves in the audio range but that doesn’t mean we can hear them. Kit Watson thank you for responding to this post and comments in an educated and logical way. I’m reading those comments here and… whatever, you can’t fix stupid, but the event is amazing.

Kit Watson explain to me why are we so lucky to see this, like the lady in the video says? And how does this affects or benefits us? Please. Im so confused on here. People blaming God, people thanking God people just not realising that on BBC mentioning God means you know that people will look at your profile to try and work out if you are a believer in mystical cloud wizards or not!

This doesnt disprove the existence of God. Hearing the noises our cars make doesn’t disprove that the car exists, so what difference is this? Why would you draw that conclusion unless you simply hate science? How does it disprove God? God made earth and the stars. 2018 The Year I Marry The Most Amazing Man Alive Hoodie. He made it happen. And he made the people who marvel at it.
