The good old day! Abadass Pumpkin King Shirt Yes, I was a milk maid, at 11 yrs old.work from 1am to 7am. Then off to school, had calises on my hands, from carting glass bottles ,door to door. Never got any pocket money, either. And to silly to realise, there was always buckets of coins, just inocent. My late step Dad Ron, his Dad was a milk man and delivered milk in a horse drawn carriage in North Hollywood through the 1920s to the 30s until they changed to gas driven trucks. He attributed his long life to climbing up people’s stairs all day.

I can remember when i was a child the milkman dlivered from a jorse and card. Dopped milk a pint at a time into a.billy that we left out. Much later we could get half pints of cream and orange juice delivered. I remember not only the milkman but the mule drawn ice wagon. Yes those were the good old days. Cowboys and Indians, hopscotch, jump rope paper dolls, cops and robbers, jacks, yo-yo’s. I sure do. Living in CA. we had brown bottles as the heat didn’t spoil the milk.

I can remember when we had to shake the bottle as the cream was on the top, my mother would take the cream sometimes and would used it for something else. We also had a baker, Wentz Bakery, who would drive around the neighborhoods of Price Hill and sell the most delicious bakery good you ever had. If you know St. Lawrence Bakery in Price Hill, there was no comparison between the two. When I come to town to visit with my girls and son I always try to go there and buy their goods. They have the best potato bread you have ever eaten but you must get there very early to get it because it sells fast.

I hate to admit this but last time we went there I spent over $30 in one morning. Don’t tell my husband! I can remember my Daddy bringing it into the kitchen in a pail after milking.Mother strained it put it in the “ice box” and after a couple of days of chilling she skimmed the cream off the top to make butter with and then we drank the milk. The milk man didn’t deliver 20 miles out in the country. I helped milk the cows at 400 am in the to get our milk on my grandparents dairy farm in Loudon we sold the rest to hoods or weeks in concord then my grandfather would pick all the kids up in the school bus after and take us to school and back.

Loved my child life Loudon shit kicker lol. And milk boy. Not only the milkman that came twice a week, but the Nissan’s bread man, came once a week. Loved the cinnamon donuts, they were a special treat when the food budget would allow it. And once in awhile we would get a jug of chocolate milk.also a special treat. My home on Tipperary Hill has a door on the side leading to the cellar and the first floor that has a little nook under the stair case with a door on it specifically made for the milkman to drop off the milkwithout coming into the house proper.

Of course by the time I moved in in December of 1973 there were no milkmen anymore ! Abadass Pumpkin King Shirt Heck, I was the milkdelivery girl when I was 12 years old. We had a cow. My sister and I would not drink the milk when we saw where it was coming from unless it was bought from the store. 99 percent of our neighbors did not have a cow so my mom sold our milk. I wish they still did deliver. A dairy not too far from me bottles their milk, no hormones etc, and we can buy it in the grocery store.
