I spoilt mine. We had so much fun with midnight feasts during sleepovers, hiding and eating chocolate while parents were in another room. Glorious memories. Can the BBC ask the university of Glasgow to produce some figures as to the size of the sample of families used in this research, because as it stand it reads like a coffee break rant by some research assistants whining about their mum in laws. There are also cases where the parents are the ones overindulging their children with sugar and fatty foods and the grandparents don’t feel able to say anything for fear of upsetting the parents and losing contact. So I think it goes both ways.

They’re referring to grandparents that spoil their grandchildren with food and sweets. “Many studies found they were inclined to feed grandchildren high-sugar or high-fat foods – often in the guise of a treat.” It also discussed how some children are more sedentary when under the care of their grandparents and how the smoking habits of some grandparents affects the grandchildren. Grandparents should be able spoil their grandchildren with love and (with permission from the parents, depending on the item) toys.

My Dad when he was alive spoilt my kids rotten, I used to look at him in disgust ….. NOT !!! They are your Grandchildren Dad if you want to spoil them please go ahead, the smiles on Thier faces say it all, long live the generous older generation.  Well grandparents barely see their grandkids. And the time is already ticking for them. Wouldn’t be so bad to the two generations to interact despite their differences in terms of values and time constraints.

Grandparents want to give their grandchildren all that they never had..and what they couldnt afford when young parents. Also mum and dad knows that if a little one has something worrying on his or her mind, gran and grandad are right there to listen. I speak as a one time grandchild and now as a granny!
