Stop and think about it, just because a dog isn’t meant to be riding round in a car doesn’t mean you have to make them even more uncomfortable by strapping them into a harness in an unnatural position when you have a dog in your car .

Totally agree they should not be sat upright like that it could put a strain on their backs not a very good design.  I was just thinking about my daschunds even for 5 minutes sitting like that their backs would cave. I would rather use that basket idea with the harness clip to the seat belt. Then they at least sit freely and can lie down and look out the window. Our one boy is an absolute menace in the car so would be nice to see something safe and comfortable with then not sitting in an upright position like this one. dogs arnt meant to sit up..

Humans arnt “meant” to travel in the sky….swim underwater for hours….travel on ground faster than a cheater….etc etc….dogs can sit just fine.. There enough support to consider it safe for the dogs back etc. Its about posture and this gives them a strong posture . Notice all the test are for front collision. How does it go with side impact we’re the dog is thrown around laterally? I was just thinking that. Can’t be good for puppy’s back, especially suspended. Not with their butts resting on anything.

Jane Massie Yes, they already are! When we go to many restaurants now, people have them sitting on a chair at their dining table! A few have them on the ground, but more and more they are sitting on chairs or in a booth next to their owners! This seems to be common with the couples(or singles) that do not have children or their children are grown and gone. Many of these pets are dressed and have their own strollers, also!  I thought same- bad for back and hips- not natural way for dogs to rest- it’s like forcing them to stand like a human.

No dog can naturally get them self into this position. And dogs would not enjoy being completely immobile so severely strapped in. I appreciate that a clip on a harness into seatbelt may not offer as much protection but this looks cruel.  I agree that looks really uncomfortable and scarey for a dog that has never travelled that way, why do they have to dangle in the air? My dog already has a disc issue so there’s absolutely no way she could use this. I understand how it could be the safest way to travel but I also can’t risk paralyzing her for it.

Although it is Kewute, we would for sure have a vet visit right afterwards. So, she’ll continue to ride shotgun!!  In Spain it has been law for many years for dogs to wear seatbelts in cars. The dogs own individual harness clips onto the seatbelt allowing a small range of movement and enabling the dog to sit or stand or lie down in any way that it feels most comfortable. In the case of a collision the seatbelt works like any other, limiting movement and keeping the dog secure.
