There is a motivational speaker that was actually born with no limbs…he is an amazing guy. And just recently became the pappa to If You Bring Me Starbucks I Will Love You Forever Shirt beautiful twins. Life doesn’t stop because there are no limbs…we as a species are amazing at adapting to change. This little one will amaze you as she grows older. Watch this space. Just glad she made it out the woods and it is safe in the loving arms of her parents who will no doubt teach her about how special she is…and how she beats the odds to survive. She will be inspirational to millions of children and young and old adults alike.

There is a lovely wee girl in N.Z. who also had her limbs amputated as a baby due to this awful disease, she is around ten years old now and living life to the full.Like any rational person, I consider anti-vaxxers monsters who put lives at risks (should be prosecuted imo, if there was some way of doing it) but for god sake people, read the article….

I have struggled with this since hearing of a child from Wollongong NSW who lost all her limbs to meningococcal disease. I thought that I as a parent would have refused amputation…still undecided.

The only other option would be to let the child die. I’m pretty sure any parent would choose amputation. Plus there are already quadruple amputees living full lives so by the time she grows up the outcomes will be even better. I’m sure her family are just thankful that she survived!

Hopefully not death, Rosie?  I would argue that it is completely against human nature to let ones child die regardless of the physical/aesthetic ramifications of amputation.

Because the bacteria gets into the bloodstream. This then is reacted to by the body and the bodies reaction to a foreign bacteria in the blood is septicaemia. My husband had it but through the pneumoccocal bacteria not the meningococcal one. But once it hits the blood steam veins block and narrow and that’s why limbs die off.It’s 2018. The bigger deal made of it the worse they will feel, if you just accept it, give them help and support (only what they ask for) then it might go some way to them living a very rich and rewarding life.
