I politely let him know that he was in Daddy Real Life Superhero Shirt! And we speak English! All kids used to learn a language in old days. I think we need to stop breeding such a timid scared an “special” generation. Have them learn an do, instead of telling them all time they are special little darlings…  Would be fine if they learnt the same language throughout school. Instead it is a bit of french, a bit of indonesian, a bit of japanese, a bit of italian!!!!! Very mixed feeling on this ?

Mainly it being year 3 ..I think much later as the reading and English skills need 100 per cent attention before we start on another language ..and that would most likely benefit being Chinese / or Japanese ..  Is this really not a thing? All three of the schools I went to through my life taught another language, two of them taught Italian and the other taught Indonesian. Now in my twenties I hardly remember any of it lol, but they also taught a lot about the cultures that I do still remember.

The problem with this is which language, I was forced to learn indonisian, Italian and Japanese. When I asked the school to learn a language I wanted ( German ) I was told no, I have now been learning Spanish for a year and I have made more progress than all the time in school. So many negative comments. I would have loved to have learned a language earlier on. It’s not a waste of time or money since the language learned can be used in the future; travelling or in business.

Also it’s generally just be really cool. Sorry I think this is rediculous. Year 3 students some of which can’t read and write should be using this time to learn English. A second language should be optional to students once there in high school like it use to be. No point being good at Japanese or Italian in an English speaking workforce.  Whatever Indigenous tribe lands the school is on, that school should learn that Indigenous language. Yes there is thousands of different dialects & tribe groups on this country, but it be great to learn the first peoples of this nation’s language.

Trust me you will earn the respect of the local elders and peoples of whatever tribe land your on and will break the ice with other Indigenous people from other tribes and language groups if you ever go around Australia . Oh good grief, they already tried this, it failed. So has WA magically managed to produce enough LOTE teachers to make this happen? Or are we going to have the same stupid situation they had last time where sometimes you had one teacher trying to teach a second language to an entire school and no child ends up learning anything?

Why dont you get them to learn sign language instead? Now THAT would be useful.  Learning a 2nd language actually helps to improve the first language by understanding the grammar rules. Don’t be small minded, this opens up employment opportunities in a fast changing world that is only becoming more international. Mandarin, Spanish, French and Daddy Real Life Superhero Shirt should be the choices… Think it’s great but half our children can’t read , write, spell or add up properly at the end of their schooling .!
