I believe it would be preferable for UK law to put the burden of proof on the accuser, libel law in the UK is silly at the best of times. After all, our legal system is meant to be based on innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around.However, the first place to report accusations of sexual assault should not be the media, it should be the police. Newspapers et all should be held liable to substantial fines if they publish without due diligence, or information that is intentionally misleading.

Better to sit on a story and have irrefutable proof than things that remain allegations and end up discrediting an organization. Ultimately, it’s not the media responsibility to stop sexual harassment (they also suffer from it), it’s on predators to stop. Remember the rape story in Rolling Stones a few years back?
