If the world had spent as much time, money and effort tackling “real” pollution like this instead of demonizing the life giving harmless gas CO2 and the overblown theory of AGW the world would be a much healthier place. The finger has to be pointed at ourselves, the Dear Santa All I Want For Christmas Is A Bat Sweater. We choose to buy single use plastics, we choose to let our society excessively waste. We allow waste to be acceptable rather than question and agitate for change.

Please take the time to read this .and weep…You must have seen or at least heard, of the Plastic Campaign on Facebook a few days ago…and Morrison’s. Newtown……I mentioned you in the comments…So, now will you take this matter up with the Welsh government? !! Be brave O Grasshopper… If the UN is actually worried about this problem, they may want to consider the MANY products to clean the Ocean that are already on the market.

We have already taken successful baby steps with the carrier bag charge, fewer carriers are entering aquatic environments around the U.K. as a result. Now we do the right thing by pushing for more. Governments need to order plastic manufactures make new items used by the food industry etc out of bio degradable plastic…..Supermarkets also need to be ordered to buy or demand good sold by them be made of bio degradable plastic packaging.

This means any country wanting an export market will have to comply. Considering plastic takes decades to break down, has anyone thought that this plastic rubbish could all stem from the Tsunami that happened in Japan just 6 years ago and is continually swilling around in the oceans where ever the tides take it. if they don’t then the problem will carry on getting worse. I said decades and the tsunami option is still in the running.

Perhaps some of it is Lin, but other waste is certainly being added to it on a daily basis and that’s because most soft drink manufacturers don’t use a lot of glass any more. Also far too much plastic for a single event. Even of that magnitude. Ships losing containers is an issue, some 2000 a year depending on which numbers you prefer.More plastic has been produced in the past decade than throughout the entire c20th apparently.

Unfortunately banning plastic is probably unrealistic but here is what I suggest. We ask governments around the Dear Santa All I Want For Christmas Is A Bat Sweater to mandate that a small amount (2% by weight) of any plastic item be made from certified recyed plastic. Then every year we increase this by 2% until, in 40 years time, around 80% of any item will be recycled plastic. If any country fails to comply or fails to enforce rules participating countries ban the import of any item containing or made from plastic from that country.
