Today, I received a message from one of Facebook’s employees that we receive $0 in matching fund because they ran out of money matching other fundraisers. At first, I was disappointed but then I realized that it didn’t make a lot of sense. When I looked back at the history of the donations, many of them came in right after midnight on  November 28th.

I believe that there may have been some systematic issue that caused our fundraiser to be excluded from the match and by the time the error was discovered, all of the funds have been distributed. We truly appreciate this move-to-action campaign, but the outcome is less than desired.

We were excited to learn that Facebook would match up to $1,000 for each fundraiser. We met that goal by over 200% with your overwhelming support. If you’re reading this message, I would appreciate if you can have someone look into the #givingTuesday matching campaign.

Our fundraiser should have received some dollars.   and I have been excited about doing this fundraiser to help raise critically needed funds for the orphanage in Vietnam. She has agreed to give up her Christmas presents this year in exchange for having those funds be directed to the other children.

My wife, Baohuong, donated in that first Dilly Dilly Dilly Dilly Shirt. I couldn’t tell what the individual donations were, but I knew they were coming in. Now, maybe the event was so successful and attracted so many fundraiser in that first hour that they ran out of funds immediately giving to the other charities and our donors weren’t fast enough, but I doubted that assessment.
