Speaking as a Fireman with 20+ years in the job before I retired. Dustin And Dart Shirt Jim is 100 percent accurate. This was way out of line. That was still pretty high pressure and an unnecessary training risk..nozzel could have came up and struck a head and these volleys think its hilarious…how about practice flowing water and hose advancment. Fair point Brian. I definitley wouldnt have been laughing over this though..cuz this was horrible techinique and this is how ppl get killed. I started as a fireman in the Air Force.

That wild hose can kill you. The person running the pump should shut down the pressure and secure that hose. I agree this was stupid but I also think training for this is necessary but training in the right way should require two people to follow the line. Like I’m no fire fighter but I was in the navy and we have to learn fire fighting skills incase a fire happens on the ship. We are taught to turn the pump off if a hose gets loose. This is super dangerous. And Sheila Matheson, even without a nozzle, fire hoses still have very heavy metal couplings on the end that could still do a lot of damage.

The point is to train them so when the hose gets loose, which happens occasionally, they know how to retrieve it and quickly! One can always tell those( who makes such comments) who have absolutely NO KNOWLEDGE of the training of Firemen, Policemen or Military! Yeah. Shut the hose off when everything around you is on fire. That’s great thinking and why you’re not a fire instructor. Please. Don’t play with matches. Only you can prevent forest fires. When someone tries to dis my military experience.

It’s a lot quicker to turn the hose off, grab the nozzle and turn it back on. In the navy we ALWAYS have someone at the pump and radios to communicate. I was on a fire department back in Wisconsin for 20 years, and a lieutenant on top of it, we never did this in training because of insurance reasons, the guy running the pumper standing up on the deck made sure this never happened, that hose and nozzle comes around, it’s going to take teeth or mess you up in a hurry, that’s just pure horse play and stupidity.

A good deck man would never let this happen. It seems the other man is showing him how to get control of it. It does look like a drill. Maybe the training varies from different stations. What if your deck man fails? Never hurts to be prepared. Just an observation. I know nothing about firefighting drills. My brother was a volunteer fireman. You are right. This isn’t rocket science. Wonder why he didn’t just pick it up and walk it down carefully. You guys can be real dumb about what is fun. They seem to think a lot with that second head.

Really he did not have to chase it. Dustin And Dart Shirt That was his choice to do so. So he is the only one to blame. That be like if someone told u to jump off the bridge and u did and then the family sues the person who told u to jump. Come on it is commen sense. .if u dont have it these kind of things will happen as shown in video. And if this happens in real life…? Anything you do can potentially be dangerous. There’s always a small chance of something traumatic happening. He should’ve laid on top of the hose where the other firefighter directed him to be.
