But unfortunately moving to high school in our Funny Valentines Day Shirt means a total switch to Italian which I personally don’t think will be of any benefit to them. I’d much rather them continue with Indonesian or move to Spanish. Learning Indonesian was compulsory until yr9 when I was in school. Did I use it? No. Absolutely no interest in learning it & had no use for it. I believe learning a language like mandarin is more beneficial due to trade. The language chosen should be beneficial to the child’s work future. Wish I had the opportunity to do that.

I think we should just focus on teaching actual ENGLISH in primary than learning about historical nonsense. There’s no point in teaching kids feudal Japanese history or aboriginal culture, when they can’t even write a proper essay or communicate an idea through a written piece. Good idea! They will walk away with more than just a few extra words under their belts – the main benefit will be from the cross cultural understanding gained and for students who only speak one language, the feel of what it’s like to speak another language.

This experience alone has more value than a few extra English lessons. I think it is a great idea. This will upskill kids at a very young age and assist them in increasing their chances of employment in the future. As a child i use to hate my dad for forcing me to learn different languages.

The Dept of education should recognise computer coding as a language as that will benefit our children more in the long run. They need to move out of the dark ages and consider the future careers and the ever increasing role technology is and will play in most industries. Second language is a great idea.

Teaching a foreign language is such a good thing, for their job status in the future, you just have to find a good teacher. If your child is doing well in English this would be fantastic but English should be first all in favour of children learning more but only if capable. This is insane! If children want to learn a second language then great but making it compulsory is ridiculous.

My eldest daughter is in year 3 and does so much school work but enforcing a second language is going to add more stress. When the hell are we going to let kids be kids and give them a choice? My children all learned Mandarin from years 3-7 then in high school my eldest learnt Italian, Indonesian and Mandarin, she self taught Japanese, Portuguese she is 25 speaks bits of other languages, she is always learning my children are now 25,24 and 20 they embraced this learning, such a great opportunity if given not just a Funny Valentines Day Shirt but also learning other cultures.
