My grandmother went through this. Terrible disease. I remember the day she didn’t recognize me. Just her first slip and it was devastating. She died two years later. This really has hit home. My grandmother is 84 with dementia that gets worse as time passes. My mother is in denial that she even has dementia.. Blames it on the alcoholism when she was younger. But when abuelita can’t speak in sentences anymore, forgets where she is and who her own family is… We have to accept reality. My mother passed away from dementia at age 66 six months ago.

The hardest days of my life was taking her car keys away, moving her into assisted living, then memory care, then nursing home all within 18months.. I spent the last 3 days with her by her bedside and watched her take her last breath on this earth. Absolutely the hardest day of my life. This disease of the brain dying is awful, because unlike cancer or other terminal illnesses, all of her organs were normal and healthy till the end.

What a strong man he is, and what big heart he has and the love that he has for his own mother. I’ve always told my family and grandparents ” we age by years, but by stories”. You’re doing a beautiful job and what a great son you are too!  Good morning everyone i am a caregiver for people who have dementia i would never change what i do for a living it breaks my heart to see this disease.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family members every day i see what this disease does we need to find a cure . My mother, who was my best friend died of alzheimer’s. It was so hard to watch a wonderful, talented woman deteriorate before my eyes and forget who we were. It’s great what you did here. My mother and father died within weeks of each other. They had been married over 62 years and couldn’t stand to be apart and my dad wasn’t the same after she advanced. I miss them both so much and hope The Girl And The Dragon Shirt back together.
