A few years back I figured out how much it would cost to do the final two years and get a Bachelor and then the difference in pay and then decided that I would stay and LPN because I would never make back the money and I would have too much stress. A lot of my friends have gone back to Hug Your Haters Matt 5 44 Religious Bible Shirt. Another BS here with ADN; planning to get my certification in my specialty in lieu of going into debt for a BSN. Won’t allow me to hold a mgmt position, but is still a confirmation of my dedication to my profession and specialty.

I want to go back to school, but can’t do both work and school at the same time! I have attempted numerous times over the years to do it! Online BSN program offered me flexibility I needed to go back for BSN . The classes were 5 weeks long . I would take several months breaks in between because it is very hard to work full-time and go full-time as you said. Towards the end when I was a couple classes away I just kept going to get it done . Employers have to step up though as mine did and offer a generous tuition reimbursement . Good luck.

Ann DiNapoli Belz I’m an LPN, so I can’t do on-line school until after I get the 2 year RN. I’ve been looking for a bridge LPN to RN program and I live in a town that has that.. but still can’t figure out the working and going to school together part, since I’ve not been successful with that over the years that I’ve been a nurse. Alyssum Aly S Dunn that is a tough dilemma. It is very hard to do.. I don’t consider myself smart enough to work and go to school. I took out every grant and loan possible to get my RN. I’m still paying for it several years later but it was the only way possible… Good luck to you and I hope you figure it out.

Dee Navarra-Herbert, that will only work if you are an RN. LPNs have to have the clinical and on site teaching. This is what I’ve been told. We were told in our ADN program, we would have to have a BSN in a couple of years. That was in 1975! I did go on for my BSN in 1990, as a personal goal. I loved the nursing theory, we kept journals, did art, took yoga. I loved the program, but, I didn’t step in a hospital at all–I’m glad I did it, but, I was already a Critical Care Nurse, it didn’t make me a better caretaker, I received that in my ADN program.

I think nursing needs to go back to teaching fundamentals–total patient care. I have left nursing, because the computer took me away from taking care of the patient and using critical thinking. Well you are just stuck on stupid if that is your opinion and intent. The only garbage is what is coming out of your mouth! Shellie hate to burst your bubble, but he is absolutely 100 % right. Going back to school and writing a few more papers doesn’t make you a better nurse.

Bless your heart….have been a BSN for 24+ years…. Only regret is that have not had time to Hug Your Haters Matt 5 44 Religious Bible Shirt. I mentor students & enc. them to pursue their BSN as will open up a lot of doors. Have seen that in my career. Bless your heart. I’ve been a direct patient care RN since 2003 (not a desk jockey), & I mentor new RNs to pursue their CQIA, something that actually applies to not just Nursing, but every sector. Sure, a BSN is a requirement for many other positions, but for many of those positions, the BSN curriculum doesnt actually apply. CQIA does. As I said, I’m almost done with this silly degree, & have thus far only found one class to be applicable.
