Another generalized article relying on information from a narrow section of the population. My sister’s mother-in-law actually charges her for the food her kids eat when they stop by to visit. She’ll actually pull her aside and demand $10. They once bombed my sister with a demand for baby sitting money when she had to leave the kids with them for a few days while she in hospital. They own three houses and one of those giant RVs. My own maternal grandmother let two of my cousins move in with her and get all settled and everything, then demanded a shocking amount of rent out of the blue. She spent almost a month letting them think they could live there for free without ever really saying it. She tricked them into moving in. She actually waited until they were settled before doing it so it would be hard to impossible for them to leave.

This creates a lovely image of doddery old grandparents force feeding their charges sweets and stodgy puddings, when the reality is than many grandparents are still working and probably healthier and more active than some of the younger generation!
