Inheritance tax is the biggest scam by the government ever. Why should you pay tax on something that has already been taxed. If people can use the loopholes to their advantage then they should. Nothing illegal about it.. it’s not even a tax avoidance scheme.. the law says you can pass your home to your spouse and it would not be subject to inheritance tax.. so become a spouse and you are doing the most tax beneficial thing for both parties.

Well I’m all for love and people doing what they want to do. However, given the admission that’s it’s for tax avoidance, although publishing your intentions to avoid tax in a paper doesn’t seem wise.What I will say…and this won’t be popular with everyone…is that tax is there for a reason. Nobody likes to pay it but the govt need money and I say pay what is due…no more…no less. and not make a mockery of gay rights in the process.

Gay rights wasn’t fought so an elderly man could avoid tax and pass his wealth onto a younger man (well unless you’re a genuinely married couple). Love is no reason…after all what about all the parents who want to pass their wealth onto their children. Now…if they were both gay….age aside, I’d be cheering from the rooftops with them.I’m sure I might feel differently if I was in that situation, but you have to be fair about these things.

The problem here is not that gay marriage facilitates tax fraud, any more than heterosexual marriage does. The problem is that any state-recognised marriage attracts inheritance tax incentives. Unmarried domestic partners, or friends with a more meaningful relationship, do not attract the same reliefs, which appears out of keeping with the changing nature of our modern relationships. Originally it was to absentee landlords , so to get one over in them was always a kick.
