I live 30 minutes north. I hear most of the “alt right” by a huge margin were just protesting the Lee statue removal but were misunderstood by counter protestors because they look exactly like the white supremacists(white).  It says in my hand guide to American culture that it’s okay to be violent to Nazis and white pride groups but no one else and that is not being hypocritical but that is just what it means to be American.
