I also remember riding on the tail of the truck down our block eating the small chips of ice. We only had an ice box & the ice man came to the back porch where we kept the box. He came down our street every day. Ice did not last very long in our hot climate & we only had occilating fans back then. No air conditioning. Later we got an attic fan. We thought that was great.
