After Hurricane Harvey flooded our home, 2 teams of volunteer veterans came to help me and my mother to “muck out” our house. The teams were from Team Rubicon, an organization made up of volunteer veterans who take time off from their jobs to come to disaster areas to help.

They continue to serve, these men and women – and we are eternally grateful, as it is just my disabled mother and I. Words cannot express our gratitude. They came when no one else did or could. Thank you, thank you, to those veterans still serving their communities and our nation; the members of Team Rubicon were from all over the country.

Society is not judged by the value of its industry, wealth, intelligence. It is judged by the value that is placed on a single life. All those other things are only around to help improve the value of that single life. Love each other. Embrace our differences, that make us stronger. Mr. President, your ability to bring people together is what we should all learn to do. Thank you for your service. Often I fear that we are not worthy of the future.
