And that means more. This response to an unexcused absence from a PA school district is not new. 43 years ago, we took our children out of school for half a week for a family trip that included some historic visits as well as fun and extended family togeterness.

I too was annoyed when I received an almost identical form letter. The Principal was a good guy and sympathetic. He agreed with the value of our trip, but explained that the form letter was required if the children were absent without prior explanation. The issue is really money.

The district gets paid by the state for each student, but only on days when they actually attend school. No attendance, no money. It is annoying to get the form letter, but nothing happens if you don’t make a it a habit. Not sll school districts have the same schedule, and school vacations don’t always line up.

Getting extended family together often means that someone will miss a few days of school. So be it. Family matters. Here we go the government trying to tell what you are going to go with your kids! With what they are teaching now in schools we would be better off teaching our own kids and teaching the real American History and not all of this other BS that don’t make any sense!

Wake up People before it is too LATE!!!!  I had to deal with an elementary school principal who did this same thing to my youngest. I called the school district Supt who straightened that out quickly.
