It’s entirely plausible that the writing of *some* lines and scenes may have been sub-contracted out to others, to be overseen and approved (and potentially amended, or left as-is) by Shakespeare as the overall creative director.

Such a thing used to be fairly standard practice in the art world as well – the world is full of paintings where broad outlines were done by one and fine detail by another, even on a painting which bears the signature of only one of the several people who actually put paint to canvas.

Any or all of the above, and possibly more, could have written *bits* of Shakespeare to submit for his approval and inclusion in the book, play or poetry. It’s called “subcontracting”. Some of the lines may even have been extemporized by actors in rehearsal or even performance, and worked well enough that Shakespeare decided to include them in the published version.

And it’s entirely plausible that De Vere may have been *an* author of some bits of the plays published by Shakespeare’s company. Along with Bacon, and possibly others. Who knows, he may even have subcontracted a scene or two out to a friendly professional rival who happened to be a bit strapped for cash at the time because of his gambling debts and bar bills.

In the world of music, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Michael Haydn (brother of the more famous Joseph) both on occasion wrote works to pass off under the other’s name, or filled out the other’s sketches when they were struggling with a deadline and had too much music to write in too short a time.
