To see my mom go through this has changed me. Keep recording. You will look back on all the videos one day and realize everything you’ve done is out of love. So far mom has one brother that so far doesn’t have it. My father’s sister died from this awful disease as well. I used to try to re-orient her in the beginning, then i took to doing whatever i could to make her laugh and put a smile on her face.

When she could still go out, i took her to familiar places, such as the restaurant we always ate at before i took her grocery shopping, as she never did get a driver’s license. Everyone there knew me and knew what was going on with mom and they were accepting and absolutely wonderful with her. You have to make the best of what time you have left, before their minds slip completely out of reach.

Its a cruel, heart breaking disease! I just moved back to my home state recently, but intend on seeking out research and or clinical studies in the area to participate in. With alzheimer’s being so prevalent in my family, odds are much greater for one of my siblings or i to come down with it ourselves. If i can help scientists understand why and find better treatment or a cure, i will do it. I watched my grandpa drift away with dementia. He was a mail man for 35 years, and knew the city like the back of his hand.

My mom moved him to florida so she could over see his care. The last time i saw him, for a fleeting moment he knew who i was….then it was gone. He’s been gone for many years now, but i still hold onto that moment he said, “hello honey” i can still hear. God bless you, and hold on to those moments. This is such a horrible disease.

To stand vigil while a loved one becomes lost. Sure, i could stop in to visit with mom, feed her, brush her teeth for her, put lotion on her, bring her treats and try to make her feel good. Mom got to the point that she didn’t know my name, but she knew i was one of her children. The devastation on her face was enough to cripple me, but i had to remain strong (no tears down the cheeks even as you acknowledge the person you knew was leaving you.)

Very painful. My Philadelphia Underdogs 2018 Shirt goes out to all that care for these individuals caught between this world and the next. She’s ill, terribly ill, sh’ll mix memories, try to understand her circumstances, sh’s suffering too though in a different way and she’ll be taking new medicines, every day. Do please when doubt arises ask her doctor or your own one , they know better. Many people prior to your mum have undergone the same sickness. Keep calm.  My mother had dementia. It was just awful. Her very last words to me were, “i love you, sheryl.” it meant absolutely everything. That was in december of 2010.
