I also remember riding on the tail of the truck down our block eating the small chips of ice. We only had an ice box & the ice man came to the back porch where we kept the box. He came down our street every day. Ice did not last very long in our hot climate & we only had occilating fans back then. No air conditioning. Later we got an attic fan. We thought that was great. What great memories. Yep, same here. When I was a kid, Berry the iceman delivered it and all of us would chase it to get slivers of ice. I remember that ice pick too.

Heck, I remember coming home from school one day and we had a new electric refrigerator, didn’t need the ice anymore. I remember when we had ice brought to us. My father was an Lee trip engineer so he installed an electric motor to the ice box, so that was our first refrigerator in latter part of 1940’s. When i was a child, I remember riding the milktruck with Pappy. Close your ears as this will be painful for many to hear……. I sat next to him in the truck—-in a milk carton—yea, no seatbelt!

Handed him out the milk, choc milk, orangeaide that was to be delivered. And my payment an ice cream con or choc milk from the dairy!!!! My very first job. Would not change it for anything! Those were the days ! We had Bread & cakes & other snacks delivered. THIS is where Mom proved she was absolutely in control. If I had not been a good girl – NO SNACKS ! My Mom was in control anyway – but she knew how to get to me shere is really meant something – no snacks ! may god bless my mom..

Oh yea, Queens Are Born In May Shirt we were having trouble sterilizing my son’s milk-we lived up stairs behind my Mother in law and the milkman whom we knew kept coming up to replace the milk and my Mother in law thought he and I were having an affair and called my husband . Yep sure do. Had a uncle and a very dear friend that retired from Foremost Dairy. Wonderful memories. Can you imagine someone coming into your home a putting milk in your refrigerator now days. He /she would be shot! How times have changed, and they say for the better, very debatable!
