Started bingewatching Rick and Morty the other night from the start of the series and the end of the episode “Rick Potion #9” from season 1 may have just started a legit quarter-life crisis for me. If you haven’t watched this show yet, you should because it has honestly opened my mind.

I’ve been on a lot of hype trains in my life, and I’ve endured a lot of bad fantasy and Sci Fi just to keep up with the water cooler conversation, but I can honestly say, I’m not enduring Rick & Morty, it’s still a damn good show that surprises me every week. Dan Harmon knows exactly how to write for the grown up geek. Rick & Morty is an animated Sci Fi sitcom with a dark philosophical sensibility that makes my jaw drop every week. I’ve become such a jaded, difficult audience for television, anything that can produce a genuine emotional reaction is priceless to me.

Rick and Morty Supreme Hoodie still does that. The clip below genuinely disturbed me. Mildly, but for real, as the hyperintelligent squirrels converge on Morty.
“Little boy, we’ll give you wishes if you can hear us.” That’s a lifetime of tropes, just slightly rearranged to screw up audience expectations and deliver everything with a dark twist. So I’ll endure all the merchandising and I’ll avoid all the Reddit threads, but I’ll still defend Rick & Morty against all its detractors. There’s nothing else like it on TV.
