Rocket Man – Kim No Fun Shirt

As a black sheep married to a black sheep, I chuckled when I realized I checked all Rocket Man – Kim No Fun Shirt boxes the author gave for what makes a black sheep. Different political and social views: check. Left the religion: check. Married a person not “acceptable”: check. I accepted many years ago that I was the black and never cared much about it. My wife’s relationship is much more difficult with her family, however. This golden child-turned-black sheep walked away from alcoholism and abuse into a very different (from my family) faith-based life 45 years ago. Physical distance came 27 years ago. Peace followed, and it is the best!

As a kid I grew up in a home where my mother did a lot of needlepoint. She did a wonderful piece which was a group of sheep front facing and shoulder to shoulder, most white, others brown and one black sheep. From the very first day she framed it and put it on the wall I thought it to be our family and that I was the black sheep. That sense of my perspective, my place in Rocket Man – Kim No Fun Shirt remains and my identity in that regard has become a sort of badge of honor for me as my mother and sibs relationships continue their decay and disintegration.
