International languages such as german, french, spanish, mandarin will help you to get jobs, sign language not so much. Great idea signing is useful for so many things .. Far better than learning a language at school and then forgetting the lot 5 yrs down the line …. My father had deaf cousins and he learnt how to sign. Sign language absolutely should be taught in schools.

Same as with for instance reading music and also typing, schools should teach and train children to allow them to communicate best and make use of all them marvelous old and new tools that are available.  I am amazed at this, i took asl in high school and then for 2 years in college. I honestly assumed since this was almost 20 years ago that it would be in place all over. They even offer it at my son’s high school which is half online and half campus work. Good on her, hope they can offer community classes too so anyone can go and learn.

I keep trying to learn sign, did a class a while ago but as with everything if you dont practice you forget i believe it should be taught in schools along side other language why isolate a whole community? Think how much better it would be if you had even the basic conversational technique down. I hope all schools take sign language classes up as an option. In the school my granddaughter is houghton regis academy they haven’t bothered.

She is deaf has an interpreter in class but the school have taken no interest. She has taught her friends and her oldest sister who goes there has taught some children. Let’s hope the government make it mandatory then we might have more integration and less discrimination.   That’s amazing! I wish my school had taught asl. My cousins were two counties over and got to learn it as a foreign language, but my school only offered spanish, french and german. I took it in college though and absolutely loved it! It’s a beautiful and noble idea.

She is a very admirable young girl who’s trying to make this world better for someone she loves and people who’s in the same situation. I think is remarkable.  Love this! I learned sign language years ago as i found it interesting & quite useful. 3 years on i have a son who has delayed speech & sign has worked so well in helping him communicate, nursery are teaching the kids there!  Well done jade, if they took the time to give primary school one lesson a week, think how quickly the youngsters would pick it up as a game and no one who’s deaf would ever have to be left out again.

Gorgeous story i’ve been saying it needs to be taught in schools for years its a better skill to have than learning french ive got my level 1 bsl exam today i love learning sign language well done for getting it rolling out in schools . This is amazing and as a teacher would love it! I am also campaign on getting disability awareness to be mandatory in all sports training course. So more people who are “different” (society says!) Can feel integrated and not left on the side lines! What an amazing and loving sister that sees the difficulties her little sister was dealing because she was deaf.
