It doesn’t matter their gender because males get Scary Face Halloween Shirt. I am a rape survivor (it was 6 years ago tonight), which led to me having a beautiful baby girl. I am raising her and my boys to know how to protect themselves and to not hurt other people. We need to teach both. I actually like the cartoons. We’ve got both sexes in a variety of combinations & a smattering of different races (ok two, maybe three, but hey…). However, that article & headline are insulting to men. How about we change the whole conversation to teaching *people* about consent?! Because then it’s all of us against the rapists & I like those odds much better . What are the rules for avoiding rape? if a woman wears a neutral colored mens overcoat over several layers of sweat clothes, will that prevent her from getting raped? if they never date or flirt will that prevent it? how silly. But unfortunately most men ( proven by the comments) are too stupid to get the message.

Teach boys what consents really is. Lots of men think that because a woman isn’t physical or verbal fighting back that it means it’s not rape. WRONG!!!! Call me crazy. But women usually participate in consensual sex. And if you men don’t know the difference between someone participating and and not participating. Then you need to wait for the woman to to actually ask you for sex before you decide to just help yourself. This should be shown to middle school kids to explain to both boys and girls what consent is because sometimes neither party understand. girls arent here to be raped and men arent here to rape we arent neanderthals.

And that said most people do not act like that and for most of the comments to steeotype people like that is absurd. there is a good number of men and women looking for love and life. The comic itself shows men and women in same- and opposite-gender relationships and that’s an excellent message. But men and women do get socialized differently so countering the different messages they get do take different approaches to some extent.

I think both need to be taught, because there will still be assholes who will rape, regaurdless of what they are taught. The world is about balance, so you have to approach this issue, like so many others, from both sides of the issue. This is all superficial applesauce. Our society doesn’t value men (gender equity is basically on attack on men, one of many) and actively marginalizes them. When authentic manhood is respected, desired and taught, many of society’s problems will diminish. Fatherhood is a huge part of this but instead of emphasizing fatherhood, we get LGBTxyz and free sex. Most boys are tought not to do things to others without their consent when they are very little. Only people who suffer from tragic histories of parental neglect, abuse or have mental illnesses that dont allow them to learn those things are the one that go into that path.

And those are fewer and fewer in developed and developing countries. The very premise of the column is flawed. It presupposes that men are taught to rape, which is a ludicrous notion. There are bad people in the world. Are we better off trying to make those people good or to be prepared when we encounter them? That’s what I’ve been saying for a long time! No one can force a person to be a rapist.
