Many years ago i walked from the refuge building on oxford road down peter street then quay street to astley house through quite deep snow. (the bus had slid over to the kerb and everyone had to get off!) When i finally got into work i was told because i was so late they had marked me as absent and took a day off my holidays! You wanna hear some of the grief we get from sons and daughters of the elderly when we explain carers may have to come a little early/ late due to weather if it snows/ices over. Plenty of them are office workers sent home themselves too.

It’s a few inches of snow, set off earlier, walk to work, get winter tyres fitted… It’s not even close to being bad or ‘extreme weather’ unbelievable how many people panic or use it as an excuse to stay home!!.. Especially schools!!!  I remember years ago when there were ten inches of snow. Spent 3 hours trying to dig my way out of my road. I gave up. The company said we would not get paid, even my manger said this. 2 days later i said everyone tried calling the office to let them know our difficulties but couldn’t get hold of anyone.

Found out the office was shut as no manger could get in!!! Hence when this was pointed out and they would have been paid. Red faced company retracted their statement . Before i retired i had to get into work regardless of the weather conditions, and driving a 3 and half ton truck, we did do it, have had hypothermia, and frost bite, the work had to be done.well done to my former work mates.. So come everyone drive with care, or keep the roads clear for people who need to keep on moving.

We hardly get proper snow anymore i remember back Single Bells Single All The Way Shirt still made it to university just had to set out earlier to make sure if the bus dosent turn up i won’t be late if it snows this year which i doubt it will my work place is 10 mins drive from my house no excuse.
