I was never taught that women are objects or prizes to be won. So, I’m really st a loss as to where the responsibility falls here. This ideal is perpetuated by some very misguided people (generally feminists) who are very out of touch with the reality of the world. We live in a society that teaches us that we are defined by our struggles. When you grow up with out any real legitimate struggles, every little thing becomes a huge problem. Being a woman, and feeling fearful of a man that can over power you, and then hearing statistics on rape can trigger a very irrational fear.

Lacking the accountability for your own safety and thinking that it’s everyone else’s responsibility to change creates this weird idea of “rape culture”, even though here in the U.S. it doesn’t exist. As for being objects or prizes, that probably comed from watching movies like the Princess Bride and thinking that an entire adventure was done just so a guy could get laid. I was raped when I was 19. I went to a house party with my friend because she was going alone, and I knew there was safety in numbers. I drank WAY too much, passed out, and woke up to someone fking me with out my permission.
