What a load of crap. I had to sit through learning french at school and i said to the teacher one day i don’t know why we have to do this because i will never use it… And i was right. I have not understood why we dont have the option to learn the language of the first australians , the aboriginal people ? I learned how to speak french and that was completely useless to me ….. I think it a great idea we are a multicultural country so help them socialise more and a lot of families travel so open the children Snoopy Game Of Bones Shirt to other languages and cultures i love it.

I just wonder where they are going to get teachers from to teach these other languages? Especially in rural areas and where it would only be a part time job! And once a school has decide which other language they will teach that has to be continued no good changing the language every year as the children what learn anything of any use. Some children find it hard enough to speak english properly let alone start learning another language between grade 3 and 6, just let are kids learn what they need to learn in school and help them with that first.

How about we focus on teaching our kids english, math and also australian values?. Even introduce them to mortgages, fees etc. I know i would.of prefered to lean about loans, banks, tax etc then learning another language that i will.never use. Children pick up a language as though by osmosis, but only when mingling with other users of the language all the time. It seems to take no more than six months (sometimes a lot less) for them to become fluent.

I would like to see fluency, rather than only a heavy dose of grammar, so that more youngsters could be usefully bilingual and able to really communicate in their chosen language. Let the kids learn english properly first, then teach them sign language which i feel would be very beneficial in our lives. If a student wishes to learn a language let them take that option at high school. I think it’s a fabulous idea…my girl already has been learning chinese, children pick languages up so easily. I just wish i had continued with a second language from school. Its easy to learn a second language when you are a child and creates opportunity later on in life.

Great idea! Im glad i was in a system where people learnt two or three languages. I’d happily have my kids continue to learn noongar. It’s more important to learn associated languages to our country than a foreign language to accommodate for new people in the country or the people in our country who won’t learn a language to suit. I have no problem with another language or sign language, but i think the system needs to step up the game a little. How many teenagers are leaving school with the minimum reading, writting and math skills, just getting by.

Why not focus on helping the kids that need that little bit of extra help with speaking, reading and writing in english and not worry about a second langue you’re just going to make it harder for thoes that struggle. I loved doing indonesian at school and i teach my children what i can remember now we travel to bali so often they try new words all the time in saying that i think sign language would be a fantastic idea our children learn little bits at school but woild be great to learn more. I don’t have a problem with it but i also think there are many more important things kids can be taught in schools, things that they will actually use in everyday life. I learnt a language in primary school and i wouldn’t have a clue what any of it was now. My kids have been learning Snoopy Game Of Bones Shirt and sign language since year 1 at their school.
