I think anyone coming to live in australia should learn english. I think the person who said learn the native language had a great idea, and would be great for Snoopy The Moments Memories Pain Happiness Shirt to teach their culture to others. I also think to learn a third language would be great providing people have that capacity and also the opportunity to practice it. I think maybe teaching children to respect others and be polite and considerate would be beneficial.

There will always be pros & cons to every decision that is made… Personally i can’t see any harm in it, but i would like to see kids having the ability to actually communicate… You know, talk to someone & hold a conversation… All i see is heads down looking at phones nowadays… We learnt 3 languages at home i think it’s great it brings people together and if they travel when older at least they will know how to speak it , also would help in some areas in the work place , hospitals and so on .

How about we teach them english first. Just reading through many facebook posts is enough to make me cringe. English is our national language and everyone (at least those born here) should be an expert in it. My 6 year old is learning 3 other languages, indonesian at school, spanish from myself and japanese from her older brother who studies it at school. She loves it and is very good at it! Heaven forbid if i teach her “french”, she’d ace the grade but get herself expelled!  About time!!!!!So many benefits being bi-lingual. Sign language could be incorporated as well.

We need a fun and varied curriculum and we need to stop telling our kids they are dumb. Yeah, lets learn japanese, or italian or some other language that is of no benefit. How about the education system gets a little smarter with what they are offering. What languages are most beneficial?? Spanish? Chinese?  If it’s not taught properly it is a waste of time! A lot of children struggle with learning english which is quite complicated! It’s always been taught at our school from pre-primary!

I’m not sure how much is really retained?  I think they need to read and write the english language first. So many students are going into high school and struggle with literacy. Whoever makes these decisions need to visit a few schools.  Im all for it. The younger they start the easier it is. Hell my daughter is wanting to learn japanese right now and shes in yr1. So ill be dusting off my books from high school to start teaching her myself. My question is, where are they going to find the staff to teach these languages. Can’t teach them if they can’t find teachers…..

I spoke with my local school about it, asking what language they teach for lote and they said they didn’t have one as they couldn’t find an appropriate person to teach them. When i was going to school private schools were teaching french.no frenchman would understand it.the teachers were not french speakers anyway.we cant teach kids to speak english or add or subtract and now we want to teach them another Snoopy The Moments Memories Pain Happiness Shirt so how much are we going to increase the education budget.?
