So we finish up with people who cannot speak english correctly cant add and subtract.but can speak another language.sounds great. Not happy with this, i know how hard it is to learn another language and still can’t as i just don’t have the ear for it. I’d hate for my child to feel Snoopy Skull Shirt learning something he probably won’t need it should be a choice. This is an english speaking country, how about making it mandatory for foreigners to speak english outside their homes..

I’m so sick of aussies having to accommodate for everyone else but ourselves on our own soil. I was never interested in language at school and certainly won’t be having my child be made to learn 1 their choice to choose . How helping them with learning problems 1 st was told my son had to be diagnosed with autism b4 he would get help and his not autistic. How about we stop filling primary students days with stuff that they don’t need to learn and get back to basics.

This country’s schooling is appalling and way too many kids do not know the fundamentals of reading writing and maths. So unless the kids are going to going to school from 9-5. Stop putting added pressure on staff to try and fit all this stuff into their curriculum. Leave it for electives in high school. Only issues with this is teachers already say they don’t have enough time in class to teach english maths science etc and now a language as well? We have children finishing school who can’t read and write, wouldn’t it be better to work in that first?

My nieces and nephews learnt japanese at there primary school (they are 17, 14 & 13) they seemed to really enjoy it and it gave them a head start when they got to high school… There are also studies that say the younger you are when you learn languages the easier it is… Disagree. I had to learn french in school as my mother tongue was not an option. It was a complete waste! Why teach another language from another country when it serves no purpose unless you’re going to live there?

If anything, teach them the aboriginal language of the area. At least theres some relevance. I’m sick and tired of people thinking they know what’s best for my kids! For it to have any value at all, it would require a significant time investment. My kids have learned a language in school since year 1. It is one period per week and is a complete waste of time. They know how to count and not much else. From which subjects will the time come? Im all for this!! Ive travelled to alot of countries and everyone speaks atleast 2 languages.

I taught 3 yr olds in south america who were tri lingual. They were in an english based school learning english and portuguese..spanish was their first language. Instead of teaching them a second language maybe start with a few basic life skills i mean i probably would’ve appreciated learning how to do tax’s more than algebra but u get the idea. A second language is a bonus but there are more important things for them to learn than another language!!!!! The amount of kids that are sent on to secondary school who cannot read and write properly is an absolute disgrace. If you cannot read and write you will forever struggle. Let’s put these Snoopy Skull Shirt where they are really required.
