What does this do for their education !! .. Oh that’s so we can communicate with our multicultural people in our own country right!! .. Cause no one will be speaking english in the future!! … Bet aboriginal language won’t be on offer!! Pfft to the education system!! Most schools can’t teach Snoopy And Woodstock Heart Shirt to a standard high enough for graduates to get a decent job now you want them to learn a second language you got to be joking, or is it arabic to assist them in the future. This is a brilliant idea.

It’s so unfair that there are some fantastic people out there we don’t make the effort to communicate with, learning sign language will break the barrier . What a beautiful story. I remember going to summer camp as a child. The cabin next to mine were girls from a school for the deaf. We had so much fun playing together & learning sign language from them. Our week at camp was a happy, unforgettable experience on so may levels! Glad to see sign language classes being introduced into schools. Long overdue.

And what an amazing young lady! I hope she succeeds. I would of loved to learn sign language in school. It would be a great skill to learn and a great way to defeat the fear of offending anyone with a disability. The nursery my son goes to and the school he will be starting in september (nursery is joined to the school) teach sign language. Myself and my mum did sign language to my kids from a young age anyway (their favourite signs being cake and biscuit .

We have taught other languages just as a credit where as this breaks down the barriers of silence, loneliness, separation and would help both those hearing impaired and those not. I’ve taught my children to learn basic sign from very young as i believe it should be taught in schools and made very normal. Even my eldest still signs the basic signs when at home which i think is great when none of us is deaf. My 13 year old daughter, has a girl at her school that is deaf and my daughter is so desperate to learn sign language so she can communicate with this girl, that shows that some kids want to learn..it would be great if kids could learn sign language at school .

I sooooo agree with you, but sign language should be a universal language. It should be taught everywhere. Not just in one country – just saying that american sign language is not the same as european sign language) your sister should be able to go to europe or anywhere else in the world and be understood. It should be taught worldwide – being a universal sign language – that way your sister will be free. I have a cousin who is hearing impaired. He’s an elementary school teacher and he incorporates this into his curriculum and the kids love it!!! Absolutely incredible idea!! Well done jade!

Our primary school at st clement in jersey is a signing school and the majority of the children are either taking their bsl exam or in the signing choir! It’s amazing to see all the children interacting as if it is second nature. Keep on fighting, it’s worth it! Well done jade!
