Used to be french before that it was latin. Really useful languages. Make it a language that will actually do some good. Japanese is my choice. I’m i think it would be a great idea to have them learn the local aboriginal language. It would help revive and keep our own precious australian languages from being lost. I am trilingual . I can speak welsh, queens english and orstralian..not sure is one ,either or iether gave me ant benefit.. But i dont understand the facebook language now that is a something that needs to be taught in older education classes.

It should be compulsory for teachers to learn to spell and have real world experience before teaching. My grandma with a grade 7 education could spell better than my kids teachers. I think learning a second language should be compulsory. But there needs to be a consistent language across all schools. I don’t understand why italian is chosen as one of the languages. At least choose a language that would be useful in our part of the world. There appears to be a lack of lote teachers and schools just go with whichever teachers they can get. Best it be arabic, they’ll be running the show soon enough.

Bloody moronic government, when are you going to wake up and see not just the writing on the wall but the scriptures these filth are demanding we follow? Teach them how to problem solve in relationships, how to communicate effectively and with respect. Teach them what makes a good parent, friend, son, daughter, neighbour. Let them spend a few periods helping in nursing homes, vets, hospitals. So many things that are 1000 times more useful!! Maybe they need to learn what its gonna be like in the outside world instead at the moment all that we are raising are a bunch of kids that stay in uni till theyre 30 or go travelling till they are 30 bludging off theyre parents instead of getting a job.

If it’s a useful language or something common i don’t see why not, just don’t force them to in high school if they can’t depending on the subjects they want to choose. I don’t agree. I think it’s going to hard for some kids who have trouble learn english and kids that have trouble learning in the first place. When i was kid they told us english and italian at school. Because of this i hard very hard time learning other language and my other school was affected. And taken me 3 years in high school at special programs to get me the right level.

So i not agree.  Isn’t it a human rights to have a choice if you want to learn anther language and not to be force too learn anther language… After all this is australia should be english… Some children just struggle with english. A second language should be optional and there be choices including sign language. Most children will never use the other language. Waste of money. Do these children have a choice? Parents suggesting that they will make sure their children become multi lingual is there choice not the childs.
