Yes, Softball Grandmas Yell Loudest Shirt growing up we had a milkman. He also had an ice cream stand in the summer. It was the best ice cream. People would come to town from all around just to buy it. Also had the Cushman bakery truck with bread and pastries. In the summer the “peddler” would come weekly with fresh fruit and vegetables. It was wonderful! Yes. My daughter was a baby in 1975. He delivered also yogurt and juice plus milk. They should bring this back and employ more people again. That’s when more moms could stay home.

Yes Charlotte Fee ,we all looked after one another. We would look franticly if one of us kids was not with us. We would knock on everyone’s door till we found them. We weir very protective and there was no bullying allowed. I got chased by a neighbour boy and me a girl, my boy cousin , same age put a stop to that little creep. Ah! Those where the days. Not that long ago I worked for a dairy that had home delivery. (I did bookkeeping). It was an interesting job as some people just gave the milkman the key to their house and he would put the mild in the refrigerator!

The door to the office was always left unlocked and I would sometimes come in and find notes with money for milk they had picked up after hours. We gave our milkman a key to our house too. He would come in very early and leave milk and other items we needed. We did have to be careful to dress before we came downstairs though, in case he was in the kitchen. I remember that the milkmen in Poughkeepsie drove trucks which had no seats! They drove standing up, because they had to jump in and out every twenty yards or so.

Like the old lamplighter, a nice memory of days long gone. Yes, my mom ordered milk ,bread, and butter, all delivered ice cold n tasty…i believe it was from sealtest. Or erhlers dairy, then when i was a teen.we moved across town and would go to Haywoods dairy store and buy icy cold half gallon bottles of milk..way better than this watered down stuff in stores today. Our milkman was my Uncle! He always came in for a quick cup of coffee with his sister, my Mom! The neighbors thought she was having an affair until she set the straight!

Always a fun family story! J. Mc Arthur’s Milk every other day when I came from Cuba and I remember telling my mom look mom milk for free and it taste good lol we didn’t have this in Cuba I love this country even though I don’t speak the language this was almost 50 yrs ago and this post brought me back to my young years in Miami Springs Florida. As a little girl, the milkman delivered our milk. We loved it than in the winter time when it snowed, The milk was icy cold with tiny chunks of ice in it.

Sometimes our Mother would surprise us and have him leave a bottle of chocolate milk. Softball Grandmas Yell Loudest Shirt We put our milk bottles by the curb, with the plastic tokens inside. The milkman came by in his truck and replaced the tokens with our prepaid milk. In Winter the cream would freeze and rise, pushing the round little cardboard bottle cap up above the bottle. We had the BEST milkman ever!!! Claude Stage!!! Not only did he deliver milk and give the kids walking to school free chocolate milk but he would fill our sink with fresh fish while we were at church on Sunday morning and we’d come home and clean them up and have fish for supper!!
