Muslim words? I thought it was Arabic and Allah meant God. Or something similar. Is the BBC going to start calling English words Christian?(Edit: The BBC News has replaced the original heading and text, so please stop saying “its world, not word”. Also shock horror they do amend articles as well.).  I was thinking the same thing, and you’re right. ‘Allah’ is simply Arabic for ‘god’, and Arabic isn’t exclusively Muslim. It definitely is comparable to seeing ‘god’ in English and calling it Christian.

Oh and before anyone gets offended, I’m left wing and fairly liberal, however it is obvious they’re pushing an agenda. But all muslims are not Arabs. This specific case seems being Persian. Okay, besides all your speculation, some Vikings could have been Muslims. They were pillaging Moorish Spain and Northern Africa. They could have had Moors in their Ships too. Vikings does not necessarily mean Nordic/ Scandinavian. Vikings just translate as Pirate in Old English. It’s like saying, Black Beard and his pirates represented the English Culture. Arabs have been around for many millenniums, long before Islam was invented by them in the 7th century, they traded with many people in far away places. That was the way they discovered Christianity and Judaism, basing Islam on Abraham’s banished son, Ismael who was supposed to have been exiled in Arabia.

What an idiotic comment. Someone clearly hasn’t read the article and looked at all the facts besides the mentioned inscription. A little clue for you, it’s not just the inscription of the word “Allah” that indicates an Islamic influence. And even then then just looking at the usage of the word alone it’s highly unlikely to be of any other influence given the things that coincided with Islam like increase in literary transmission and the almost total ownership of the word by Muslims.
