My mother when she was barely legal went to college and met this amazing guy. Very quickly they moved in together and they were so happy. Well, summer comes around and he convinces my mother to come back to his small, isolated fishing village in alaska, to which she is more than happy to oblige. They are not even there a week before he is smacking her around, leaving bruises and marks, mentally torturing her, and all else that is included. At the time, in this small village of maybe a couple hundred people, my mother is staying with this man’s family. They are well aware of what is going on. They hear the screaming, they are first hand witnesses to the abuse… None of them do a damn thing.

Even after my mother became pregnant by her abuser his family convinced her that not only did she deserve to be treated this way because she was “a white bitch” but that she was lucky she got his attention at all. Let me reiterate: she is a young 19 year old college student, far from home, isolated from anyone she knows, and is being told she deserves what is happening to her.

Their little vacation is up, but instead of them both leaving, her boyfriend convinces her to drop out of college. He’s going to go back to the big city, go back to school, and when he is ready for her he’ll send for her. She agrees.
Months go by without word, until finally he calls and tells her it’s over; that he has a new girlfriend. He never wants to hear from her again.

Think about that. My mother was heartbroken that her abusive, controlling, manipulative boyfriend left her… And if that isn’t a statement on the mind of some victims, i don’t know what is. My mother was extremely lucky. He let her go, she didn’t leave. She wanted to stay; the only reason my mother escaped is because he let her, she was an object that no longer held value of any kind and that is the only reason she was free.

Luckily, years later and after joining the air force, my mom has become a certified cna and has gotten her life together. She then meets my father, gets married, and had two children.   I am so disturbed by just the little you have played. A grown adult woman does not make noises like that unless she is in pain… And i cannot imagine someone i cared about or was in a relationship with ever speaking to me like Space Heartbeat Shirt.
