I also tried it, after reading about it in the Chicago Tribune. Stranger things poster shirt, it’s pretty damn close. It was given to the reporter by the Colonel’s nephew. The original recipe is in the KFC museum in Corbin, KY. It is locked up, but I have never seen armed guards there. They have a fucking great big mural of all the herbs and spices in store…….no secret now under the new H&S disclosure regs. Loretta Fields the funniest part of this conversation is you not knowing the history. The first KFC was opened in Corbin, Kentucky during the Great Depression and the first franchise restaurant was opened in Utah in 1952. I suggest you do research before commenting or you just might make yourself look like a fool.

Oh well! U guys the kfc in salt lake city are big fat liars! There are signs everywhere saying they are the world’s first kfc! Lol thanks for making me do my research! You really can’t believe everything you hear! All it’s claiming to have is 11 herbs and spices. It’s not claiming to be KFC’s recipe. You made that assumption yourself. POPEYES! But then I haven’t been to a KFC since the 90s (they all closed around here in favor of church’s, bojangles, and Popeyes,) sad to hear they’re not as good.

Darius Diamante oh man really? That’s a bummer to hear. Honestly haven’t been to a Popeyes in a long time either. Maybe 2 years? Cook at home so much now. Darius Diamante you are so right KFC was the best back then. They have no idea how delicious it was…we grew up in a time where things were good and hard work meant something, we got lucky. Popeyes is as awful as KFC. In my city the go to fast food chicken places are Sal’s & County Sweet. Both have been around forever and have real fried chicken.

KFC back in the 70s and 80s really was SO much better than it is now. These days, it just tastes like the grease it’s fried in, and it’s just gross. Sometimes, I’ll get nostalgic and think I’m in the mood for KFC. But then I eat one piece, and it just makes me sad. I crave the “old” KFC. I have decided that I’m not going to even order their gravy next time I get KFC. Such a disappointment now. The original was great. I hardly ever to to KFC anymore…..they should change it back like it was in the beginning.

You need to put all those spices plus hot sauce in with the buttermilk and marinate the chicken overnight.. Then flour and seasonings the next day… A great fried chicken starts from the inside out! I only ‘other’ thing I do is after I flour the chicken, I put it back in the refrigerator, uncovered for about an hour or so. This dries it out which helps crisp up the skin. My southern grandmother taught me this. I’d love to try this and I think I’d take the advice of many who commented about adding seasoning to buttermilk…but! I hate chicken skin and chicken on the bone.

Use boneless thigh instead of breast. Stranger things poster shirt. I salt and pepper the chicken slightly, egg wash with tiny amount of mustard and a vinegar based hot sauce. Make the egg wash bright orange. Then I use a flour dredge similar to this one minus the dry mustard. Those will work great! The buttermilk tenderizes the chicken and the deep fry keeps it juicy! We make tenders this way and they’re awesome every time! I would marinate them 4-6 hours though and add franks hot sauce to the buttermilk. Ps. I’d leave those two eggs out too.
