No wonder her first word is baba!  Born in 1991, dad cooks better than mom…like mom is good, dad would clean up on master chef. Dad braided hair, went on field trips, volunteered at school and did a lot to make me a capable person.  The thing i don’t get is the book thing.

It shouldn’t matter if the protagonist is male or female if we’re aiming for equality, it certainly didn’tand doesn’t to me, because of a little thing called empathy. You can relate to a protagonist that isn’t even human if it’s written in a way to provoke empathy, so why should it matter the gender?

I get it, representation and all, yes, in general there should be more equal representation on the market. But if you are looking for good books to buy your kids, the gender (or even the species) of the protagonist shouldn’t be a limiting factor. My daddy braided my hair. I liked when he did because while his big calloused and clumsy hands didn’t get a perfect and tight twist, he also didn’t yank and T-Rex Christmas Tree Sweater while brushing the way my mom did.
