Maria Alfonso I was about to ask the same thing… yeah… the 50’s are glorified but they were a very shitty time for MANY people. I am not talking about modern commodities either… it was great for male whites… at least here in the US.  While the parents love the 1950s, and is still in that era, at least the kids have a choice, which is a good thing, rather than just be subjected to an era that they know nothing about. Kudos to whatever makes your family happy. Interesting- this is not the 50s my mom grew up in- where is the wringer washer? The abject poverty, the severe social restrictions, I am wondering if she is using soap to get her hair like that?

Everyone has a romantic view of the, “Good old days.” but want to replicate it with modern conveniences. I grew up on the fifties and my mother had a washer, dryer, dishwasher, refrigerator, freezer, we used shampoo and she had a hair dryer. You were wealthy, then Laura. Well into the sixties before we had a wringer washer, and fridge (no freezer, no dryer, no dishwasher). Well, we had a dishwasher – my dad! Clothes were hung on the washing line, or in front of the fire if it was raining, and milk was delivered fresh every morning.

People like the wealthy version of the 50s- not the dirt poor scraping by with no social services to help version.  I am learning some things about the 50s.
