My kids princable told me that they hate parents and that we should have no say in our kids education because she knows what’s best for them because she is a professional. well, we took our kids with us when my husband went preaching to the east coast.

How about parents be allowed to talk to the principle to request the family vacation. Needs to work both ways. I did the same thing with my son and the first week of school, and met the same lecture, fifteen years ago. More than once. His worldly adventures that week in September cannot be duplicated, instilled in him values you can’t learn in school and gave him a hands on experience with the roots of our country, albeit once the tree roots of the redwoods. No regrets. I’d do it all again.

Know the whole story people, not the half truth the media wants you to know/believe. But also understand that the school has a set of laws/rules they must follow. I thought the response from the school was very professional and straight forward. Also agree that the kids had a once in a lifetime experience and would have taken the same opportunity. They only care about quotas not about education.

Hence no child left behind and common core. Your kid misses to many days and they don’t get state credit for him which means lower funds. But as far as education they do what they have to and not one thing or word more. It’s easy to justify a vacation and not attending school because the parent doesn’t watch the kid struggle in class to catch up on missed work and projects or to learn missed concepts vital to future concepts. The parent gets to be the fun one while the teacher is the bad guy.

We thought the trip and all they experienced was worth more than being in the school. Went to plymouth rock and saw the ship, and boston, and etc, etc. just do what you think your kids need most. get the make up stuff and help them make it up. thats all.
