Im a chef and i habe cooked thousands of steaks using tons of methods…. this video is pretty spot on. All you need to make a delicious steak is lots of salt, a pan, and oil (i like to use butter as well). I’ll remember to never eat steak again since I live in an apartment where grills aren’t allowed. Since apparently steak should never be cooked unless it’s on a grill. Edit: this is a joke obviously. This doesn’t have a lot of reactions because it is the best point on the whole thread and people dont want to admit it. The United States Flag Does Not Fly Because The Wind Moves Past It Shirt. Well done.

I actually did that when I was living in an apartment. You can really mess of a steak , or at least I mess up a steak, on a cast iron. If I wanted steak I’d just go out to dinner. I’d have to save for a month. But it was the best steak. I never cook steak anyways cause I’m too broke lol but still! If i can cook steak, I cook it in a pan. That’s how my dad cooked it and it was always the best tasting steak. Melted like butter. Amazing. There are so many social justice warrior food elitists who claim that steak should be ‘grill’ only. And that anyone who doesn’t grill their steak is a monster.
Apparently they don’t understand that not everyone can afford a grill. Or are not allowed to have a grill at their apartment. Classic American behaviour. Only thinking of their own perspective. Doesn’t even think that there are actually people who can’t afford to grill. Mike Cagan I’m not offended at all. I was making a crack at all the crazies in the comments freaking out cause they think the only way to make a steak is on a grill. Don’t need a grill I cook steak in a pan on my stove top … bet it’s some of the best steak anyone ever had and I salt it as well.

You can do what you want with your money…but honestly I wouldn’t spend my money on a steak if I was just going to cook it in a skillet. The best way to cook a steak is use a griddle pan with a small amount of oil. It leaves seared marks and cooks steak beautifully. I’m conflicted … on every cooking show I’ve ever watched they talk about not continually turning your steak over, yet that steak was flipped over about 10x! Yeah it was odd because in the last video the steak was only turned over once on each side.
I’m guessing it was because of it being a cheaper cut but it was also marinaded which would speed up the cooking process? Bit confusing to be honest. It took me ages to perfect cooking a steak & I only turn it 4x in total … the first 2x to quickly sear it. The reason for repeatedly flipping is to get more even heat distribution. Flipping out only once results in a significantly higher temperature difference between the inside and the outside. This isn’t a big an issue with thinner cuts, but once you get over 1.5″ it becomes really noticable.
If you use a good quality pan or grill though is it really not going to be cooked evenly? That thin cut looks like it will end up like rubber. While the bottom side is taking on heat, and transferring towards the center of the steak, the top side is radiating heat away. By constantly flipping you keep the both sides at a roughly even temperature, and the heat transfer towards the center coming from both sides is equalizes as well. You end up getting your steak more evenly done throughout instead of having and overcooked outside to get the proper internal temperature
