My child goes to a school where they tell you at the beginning of the year that vacations during the school year are not allowed. He attends an IB High School where the learning is intense and fast paced and he can’t afford to miss a day of class. We schedule all appointments and orthodontist appt after school hours.

We knew this from day one and plan accordingly. While I applaud this father for taking his children on an experience of a lifetime, if he was told in advance that vacations weren’t allowed during the school year then the school is correct, rules are rules and put there for a reason.

I have always felt that children learn more on a family vacation than in any classroom. You spend one on one time with your child..something no teacher or school can do. They learn to interact with others and besides . I was very grateful and seemingly lucky that my son’s 1st grade teacher was more than happy and supportive of him taking a family road trip.
