I just feel like there are other means to help students that would be less distracting for them and others. Otherwise we end up with a society of whiny babies that can’t handle going to class because someone disagrees with them and has the nerve to politely express their own views.

Teachers should not be the enemy. But sadly, the school chooses to be the enemy when they becomes numbskulls. fidget tools should allow one hand to work during independent time and two hands during listening. The teacher should probably aid the child in making proper fidget choices to start with. no I’m not missing the point. You choose to not accept the responsibility of a person who CHOSE a profession and therefore lost the right to whine.

Other children using these tools. Hmm well that’s a parents mistake for allowing a toy at school. And that’s the teachers mistake for not what is in the IEPs to know who is and who is not supposed to have them. Also that’s the teachers issue for monitoring her students well enough and communicating with parents well enough to know who is trying a new tool bc of issues and who is just plain playing.

Aaron Norris -where is this mistreatment you speak of? If you are a lazy teacher, find another job. If you can’t handle the scope of kids, quit. 30 kids really. Are you such a bad teacher, you don’t know how to be the adult and direct neurotypicals to deal with it. It’s not like their sensory systems are on full alert all day every day and they are doing everything they can just to hear the teacher.

And what about the crap the other kids are doing to distract the few who need fidgets? Why is it they can do whatever they want? Cus the teacher can’t be bothered to be the adult. There are other things that aren’t disruptive. Personally I like the fidget boxes. Not fun to look at but help the child without distracting the whole class.
