Groceries were delivered by bike to the home. We used to also enjoy getting our gas pumped for us. It seems now we don’t get any of these services anymore and we are paying much more to do it ourselves. Something is wrong . When I was 7 or 8 yrs old our deliveries were made by horse drawn carriers. Horse knew every stop. The delivery man only handled the reins when was coming to the route and after he was done with the deliveries. Yes! Our milkman would leave an order sheet to check off how much milk we need next time and also other items like cottage cheese, buttermilk, chocolate milk, etc. So glad to have been a part of those simple times. The Good Humor ice cream man in full white uniform with bow tie and hat. He also had shiney Patton leather shoes. And never forget the Helms bakery truck and that tooting whistle as he came down the street. The drawers full of yummy donuts. The smell of all the baked goods. I sure miss those days.
